Beacon Day

By Storyseeker on YF 1000

I haven't heard or seen anything like it. I was organizing shelves within my personal library, when I heard something awful. By pure instinct it caused me to draw my sword. A piercing growl rumbled through both air and earth, penetrating even down to the depths of my library where I was. From how it sounded, it seemed far, thousands of blocks away at least, yet it was still so loud.

I climbed to the top level, and gazed beyond the trees to see if I could get a glimpse of whatever creature made that sound. While I could not see it, I had at least a wink of an idea what caused it.

Talks between I and Bedtroch revealed rapid change within the Southern Continent. Three major figures rose in the span of a month—powerful figures that left the Fortress as soon as they came. One, Bedtroch relayed with odd grief, he had to banish for theft.

I can only wonder if the one he banished created the noise.

With an uneasy stomach, I stepped down, back into my library to continue sorting. I had settled again into my routine. Not more than an hour passed. But it happened, louder.

A shrieking wail extended from the distance. My bookshelves rattled, and the collected dust fell from the ceiling. The cry, still continuing, eventually settled into a low mutter, then fading away. This time, I did not return to the surface. I knew that this thing was dead, and killed by the very thing that summoned it in just a few hours time.

That knowledge did nothing to comfort me. To summon a beast that could make a sound so foul it reached across both the southern and northern continents, That was one thing. But to summon such a creature, only to kill it?

This player was dangerous.

I needed to head south, either to find answers, or to gain support. I worried a fight was inevitable, but I pushed those thoughts of destruction to the back of my mind.

When I gathered what I needed for the long travel and set foot outside, I saw it in the sky. A blindingly bright, thin white line of energy pierced the air, splitting the sky in two. The energy spilled out from a place I could not yet see, thousands away. No doubt, that is where the creature fell.

A summoning, a death, and a sign. It was one of two things: a signal of triumph, or a harold of death for more than just the beast.

I second guessed my bravery. I began to wonder if I was at all equipped to handle such a player. I knew I was not. I stepped back down into my home.

Undoubtedly, everything has changed. I can only hope South Spawn will be safe.
